People I Know: In Paint and Words

with 11 comments

IManshead WP have been working on my first book of paintings I’ve called “People I know” It been a fun project so far and I still need two or three more small paintings to fill out the pages. These two paintings are in progress and because I had a specific use for them, I’ve been working more deliberately then I normally would in resolving them. Sometimes it is a good idea to wait and see what the painting is calling for.Womens Head WP

The Holiday Season

Every year the “powers that be” dish out a mind boggling assortment of goodies, games and toys for all ages. This year I will add to the excitement with a series of small paintings. Most will be gifts to friends and family, but I think a good idea to give something that you’ve made.

Progression and Moving Own to a New Subject

I’ve been repeating this theme of a man and his child for close to 12 years. I’ve never been totally satisfied with the paintings that I’ve created (I may never be). This painting is as closed to what I wanted to say today and so I think it’s time to move on to a new topic. Man&child7I am committed to created 50 new painting in 2008, and I’m going cheat by getting starting now. Why wait until New Years!

Take Risk, Don’t be Predictable, Try not to Repeat Yourself

It’s easy to get tired of yourself, in what you do, see and say.

Take some chances, Marlon in Guys and Dolls, Denzel in Training Day, Miles with everything.

When I had finished with this painting, I decided that it was about a home coming and thankfulness. The name came from the background.

Still Life Composition The does and don’ts

leave a comment »

I came across a “work in progress’ painting by Luis Colon I’m Still Here which I liked a great deal. The artist was not satisfied and made changes which is something I do all the time.

The reasons Luis gave for making his changes had to do with the scale of the objects and I wondered if this the reason I liked the painting so much and why I have my difficulties painting still life’s?

I try very hard to get the relationship and size of the objects correct, but then I lose interest. The scale of the objects in this painting make no sense, but there is something about the painting that I’m beginning to like.
